Musicians & Entertainers from Zanzibar

Dear All Musicians from Zanzibar scattered across the Globe

I am working on a new project connected to Music hoping to produce a Special Music Web of all Musicians from Zanzibar.

As good as we have a good record of Sportsmen and Sportswomen from Zanzibar which we have photos archived, I wish to now focus on all our folks who play instruments, sing and play in dance bands.

Please send me your photos or video clips of yourself playing an instrument. I also welcome your children and grandchildren.

On record I have saved some videos and photos of some musicians I can quote Alwyn Mendes, Ashley and few other singers, and hope many more will assist me with my project.

For a start I am using a blog page from Benny & Betty's Family blog as a temporary measure.

Again I welcome all family members to join me in this Musical project.

Many thanks,

Benito De Souza

(Stage name Benny & Black Velvet)

Hi Mervyn - Please share this post with your band members and rivals band in Dar.
Brings back good memories. You look cool on keyboards.
Best regards - Benny

Mervyn played in the band for years but never thought of recording ourselves. In fact, we have just two pictures of those days. Our rivals in Dar have none and their then girlfriends, now wifes, always write to me to remind me to send them a picture of their band if ever I come across one.

Here are The Matatas, the band I played for performing at the Simba Grill, late 1970s. I am on keyboards. At the time, the Simba Grill was the premier nightclub in Dar and was at the Kilimanjaro Hotel.

Dear All Musicians from Zanzibar

Hi Alwyn, Arnold, John & Other Musicians.

If you have any videos/audio tracks or photographs of you or any of your family members playing an instrument or playing with a band, new or old, please oblige and forward to me for my new Music Project.
Many thanks - Benny
